WALKING ARCHITECTURE

GUIDED WALKS PROPOSAL

LEICESTER

Introduction

As a pilot opportunity, during the Love Architecture Festival (15-24 June), the RIBA East Midlands, working in partnership with Leicester Civic Society, Leicester Shire Promotions and the Leicestershire and Rutland Society of Architects (LRSA), plan to run two guided walks in Leicester.

The purpose of the Festival and the Walking Architecture tours is to highlight the contemporary architecture in the city as well as the cultural significance of the built environment and architecture in today’s society.

The intention is for the routes to be agreed between the RIBA and the Civic Society, with Society members providing the guides. Ticket sales will be via the Society’s website and marketing, plus that of Leicester Shire Promotions and the RIBA, with the Leicester Tourism Information Centre also a source of tickets @ a 10% commission rate.

Audience

General public, living both within the city and beyond

RIBA members and architects

Civic Society members

Groups – students, societies etc. – these may provide opportunities for developing the tours into a longer term project
