Leicester Civic Society
Chairman's E-newsletter June 2018 #134

16 June 2018

I am sure that you will all have been as shocked as I was to hear of the sudden and unexpected death of Stuart Bailey on the 3rdJune. Stuart was the Civic Society’s chairman for over ten years, successfully steering the Society, making it the respected organisation that it is today. Stuart was a defender of the heritage of Leicester and through his leadership showed that this was something to cherish and protect. The many tributes from across the city and beyond show that his knowledge and experience will not be easily replaced and he will be sadly missed by everyone that knew and worked with him. Our thoughts at this time are also with Stuart's family.

The Society’s Executive Committee met last Tuesday, and agreed that the work of the society must continue and that Stuart would expect no less. As the recently elected Vice Chairman at our recent AGM, the committee has agreed that I should become the interim Chairman, to allow us to take stock and ensure continuity for the Civic Society.

The Committee wants to assure all of our members that it is business as usual, despite this sad loss.

The next edition of Leicester Citizen will be published as usual towards the end of July and will contain a tribute to Stuart along with details of upcoming events including our season of walks, the annual coach trip – this year to Chester, and the annual dinner amongst other good things. Details on booking for these events will feature in the Citizen as usual.

I know that I can count on your support, and if you have any comments of questions please do not hesitate to contact me,

Best wishes
