Campaign News: Bowstring Bridge: Footpath Lost, Campaign Continues

More on this Campaign: Save the Bowstring Bridge

14 October 2008

Despite a concerted campaign by a combined team of heritage groups and local campaigners, the campaign to preserve the public right of way over the Bowstring Bridge failed at Leicester Magistrates Court. The judge ruled that the alternative route alongside the bridge was sufficient.

The case was not without some humorous moments, not least when one of the campaigners produced a photograph of a council cleaning vehicle sweeping the bridge despite previous council claims that it was unsafe for vehicles!

In spite of the set-back, our campaign continues and the next battle will be to try to get the bridge listed. We still need your support and would encourage you and your contacts to sign our petition to get even more names to convince Leicester City Council of local opinion.
