U-Turn on New Walk Art Gallery Proposal

As a result of pressure from Leicester Civic Society, the Friends of New Walk and Leicester Conservatives, Leicester City Council have finally listened to reason and are reconsidering the design of a proposed art gallery on New Walk.

The original proposal included a completely unsuitable black concrete front extension which would have been the first breach of the historic building line since the introduction of planning law in 1948.

Leicester Civic Society is not against the idea of an art gallery on New Walk but asks why the city council didn't perform a proper consultation before rushing out this proposal.
